The Effect of Earthquake and Tsunami Disaster Education on the Level of Preparedness in Students
Abstract
Indonesia is one of the countries that frequently occurs disasters, namely earthquakes and tsunamis, because geographically Indonesia is at the junction of four tectonic plates. Java Island, especially in Bantul Regency, has experienced Gemba Bumi which took a lot of victims. Based on the disaster history, it is necessary to make efforts to minimize the risk of disasters, especially earthquakes and tsunamis. Preparedness education needs to be provided from an early age, including within the scope of schools. Because the community at school is an educational area that can be used as a medium for disseminating information. This study was to determine the effect of earthquake and tsunami disaster education on the level of preparedness for students of SDN Jigudan Srentuk Bantul Regency. The design in this study used a pre experimental design. The research sample was taken using total sampling. The research was conducted at SDN Jigudan Srentuk Bantul Regency. The sample size in this study were 46 respondents. The data analysis test used the Wilcoxon signed test. This research instrument used the preparedness questionnaire from LIPI-UNESCO / ISDR (2006). It shows that there is a significant difference in the level of student preparedness between the pre-test and post-test scores with a significance value of 0.000. This shows that education for the earthquake and tsunami disasters can increase the level of preparedness for students at SDN Jigudan Srentuk Bantul Regency.
