The Correlation Between Self Efficacy and the Stability of Blood Sugar Levels on Type II Diabetes Mellitus Patients
Abstract
Diabetes mellitus is an important problem in global health. Until now, Diabetes Mellitus Type 2 is a disease that can be controlled. Self-efficacy is very important for diabetes mellitus sufferers in managing, planning, changing behavior in dealing with diabetes mellitus in daily life, so that it can improve the quality of life for diabetes mellitus patients. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between self efficacy and the stability of blood sugar levels on type II diabetes mellitus patients in probolinggo. This type of research is a correlational analytic study with a cross sectional approach. The sample in this study were patients with type 2 diabetes who met the inclusion criteria as many as 228 respondents who were taken by purposive sampling technique. The data was collected using the observation sheet measuring blood sugar levels and the DMSES questionnaire sheet which has been tested for validity and reliability. The results of the validity test with a calculated r value above 0.658 and a Cronbach alpha reliability value of 0.923. Data analysis used the Rho Spearman Correlation test with a significance value of p <0.05. The results showed that most of the 228 respondents had good self efficacy, namely as many as 124 respondents (54.4%) and most of them had stability of normal blood sugar levels, namely as many as 162 respondents (71.1%). The results of the calculation of Spearman's statistical test at a significant level of a = 0.05 obtained a value of ρ of 0.000 which means that there is a relationship between self efficacy and the stability of blood sugar levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Probolinggo. By doing self-efficacy properly, it can maintain blood glucose levels in normal conditions, thereby preventing complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Health workers should always motivate patients and families to always provide support in implementing self-efficacy.
