Abstract

Chronic kidney disease or CKD occurs inability of the kidneys to maintain fluid and electrolyte balance and remove metabolic residues. CKD patients undergoing hemodialysis or CKD on hemodialysis is an end stage renal disease condition that shows various changes in body function due to decreased kidney function and low levels of hemoglobin in the blood. Decreased kidney function will have an impact on meeting basic needs, including physical function, energy status, and sleep quality. The purpose of writing articles is to explore physical function, energy status, and sleep quality of CKD patients as evidence in providing nursing care. The study design was a descriptive survey using a sample of 60 CKD patients on hemodialysis with convinience sampling techniques. The research tool used the KDQOL-SF questionnaire, and data analysis was carried out univariately using the distribution of proportions, central tendencies, and variations. The results showed the majority (80%) of CKD patients experienced poor energy status; most (56.7%) physical function is poor, and the majority of sleep quality is also bad (76.7%). Decreased kidney function greatly affects the disruption of physical function, decreased energy, and poor sleep quality. The need for education about self-care management to CKD patients on hemodialysis and caregivers in order to manage their illness so they can maintain their health status.
