Perception of Nurse Manager about Implementation of Executive Coaching

Abstract

The coaching programs have been widely used in various institutions, especially in hospitals. However, many nurses among managers still do not understand the method of implementing coaching. Executive coaching is a coaching program for nurse managers aiming to improve individual leadership skills. This study aims to explore nurse manager perceptions of the implementation executive coaching at RSUD Dr. Pirngadi Medan City. The design of this study is a qualitative research with a phenomenological approach. Data collection tools use FGD guides and voice recorders. Data were analyzed using content analysis. The number of samples used is 15 participants taken by purposive sampling technique. The results of the study obtained five thematic categories, namely: 1) the lack of understanding of participants related to executive coaching, 2) the attitude of the head of the room is not optimal, 3) the ability of the head of the room is not optimal, 4) the obstacles in carrying out executive coaching in the hospital, 5) the expectations of participants in executive coaching implementation. The executive coaching program can improve the leadership skills of nurse manager in the room so it is recommended to conduct leadership training for nurse manager in hospital.
